Personal media server

Your library, at full quality. No ads, ever.

Wren TV plays your movies and shows exactly as they were made. Dolby Vision and Atmos pass through untouched, and the server only transcodes when a device really can't play the file.

The playback ladder

The best version your screen can take

Each play request walks down the ladder and stops at the first step that works. Most plays never get past step one.

  1. Direct playThe original file, byte for byte.
  2. Lossless remuxRepackaged to HLS/fMP4. Dolby Vision, HDR10 and Atmos are kept.
  3. Lossless audioTrueHD and DTS become ALAC while the HDR video stays native.
  4. Play anythingApps with libmpv play even DV Profile 7 directly.
  5. TranscodeHardware-accelerated, and only as a last resort.

Features

Small, fast and yours

Fast scanning

Only new or changed files are touched. Titles appear instantly from file names while metadata fills in, and watched folders pick up new episodes in seconds.

Torrents and Real-Debrid

Add a magnet and press play. Cached torrents come from Real-Debrid; everything else streams in playback order from the built-in engine. Wren TV never seeds.

Hardware transcoding

VideoToolbox, NVENC, Quick Sync, VAAPI and AMF, detected automatically. HDR-to-SDR tone mapping runs on the GPU.

Accounts and sharing

Sign in once with a Wren TV account, claim your server, and share whole libraries or just a few with friends by email.

Picks up where you left off

Continue watching, up-next episodes, chapters and skip intro/credits markers, synced across every device.

No ads, no tracking

No ad rows, no rentals and no telemetry. Your server, your files, your watch history.

Install

One small binary, or one container

Wren TV is a single Go binary that runs as a system service. It needs ffmpeg (the Docker image bundles it).

Mount your media read-only. Config and the database live in /config. Pass /dev/dri or an NVIDIA GPU through for hardware transcoding.

services:
  wrentv:
    image: ghcr.io/ltagroup/wrentv:latest
    container_name: wrentv
    restart: unless-stopped
    ports: ["32500:32500"]
    volumes:
      - ./config:/config
      - /path/to/media:/media:ro
docker compose up -d

Then open http://<your-server>:32500, sign in with your Wren TV account and claim the server with the code from its log. Builds are available to early-access testers while Wren TV is in development.

Watch anywhere
